Position Summary
The Rental Technician helps guests begin their mountain experience with properly selected, fitted, and maintained rental equipment. This role combines friendly guest guidance, careful equipment handling, accurate records, inventory support, and technical work completed only within assigned training and authorization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Work safely and follow resort procedures, department standards, and applicable regulations.
- Communicate clearly with teammates and leaders, and support other departments when resort operations require it.
- Provide friendly, solutions-focused service to guests and coworkers.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and promptly report hazards, equipment concerns, or guest issues.
- Welcome rental guests, confirm required information, and help select appropriately sized skis, snowboards, boots, poles, helmets, and related equipment.
- Fit and adjust equipment according to manufacturer guidance, shop procedures, guest information, and the technician's current training and authorization.
- Complete required manufacturer, shop, and indemnification training before performing binding adjustments or other restricted technical work.
- Inspect equipment before issue and upon return; document settings, condition, damage, and maintenance needs accurately.
- Explain basic equipment use, care, and return procedures, and refer instruction or safety questions beyond the role's scope to the appropriate team member.
- Clean, dry, organize, and store returned equipment and perform assigned basic maintenance or tuning within training.
- Maintain orderly rental inventory and work areas, and promptly remove questionable equipment from service for qualified review.
- Support efficient check-in and return processes during peak periods while protecting accuracy and guest safety.
What You Bring
- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and willingness to follow technical procedures exactly.
- Friendly, clear communication with guests of varied ages and experience levels.
- Able to learn equipment systems, sizing methods, documentation requirements, and point-of-sale or rental software.
- Able to stand for extended periods and safely lift, carry, and rack skis, snowboards, boots, and related equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Willing to complete all required training before performing restricted equipment adjustments or maintenance.
- Previous rental-shop, tuning, retail, or snowsports experience is helpful but not required.
Work Environment & Schedule
This position works in a busy rental shop around wet floors, hand tools, equipment racks, cleaning products, and rapidly changing guest volume. The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting. Availability may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak winter periods.
